Plant a Tree, Stay Green

Planting trees helps in the achievement of the 10% forest cover threshold as envisaged in Kenya’s vision 2030 blueprint. It is for this reason that KENAS, in collaboration with Greenline Fund, joined hands and made a green statement by planting one hundred trees within the Nairobi National Park in December 2015. The park itself, the first of all national parks, is home to various park animals.

Apart from providing a canopy and habitat for wildlife, trees in forests also help in energy conservation, saving water, providing food and preventing soil pollution. In keeping with its mission of promoting environmental awareness, Greenline Fund serves to educate all present and future participants on the need to plant more trees and how best to nurture them so that they can grow to maturity. To ensure sustainable growth and development of the planted trees, Greenline will ensure that the planted trees are well nurtured and watered during the dry season.

KENAS Plants Trees in Machakos County

In partnership with the Syokimau Leadership association and Blessed Assurance Academy, KENAS participated in its traditional annual tree planting activity, which was held in June 2015. This activity that will hopefully boost Machakos County forest cover, took place at the local chief’s camp which also doubles up as a polling station.

Tree planting at Karura Forest

KENAS partnered with Friends of Karura Forest in 2014, a Community Forest Association founded in October 2009. Friends of Karura Forest endures to provide access to people living around the forest and the public at large, protect the forest, restore the forest to its natural state, manage and enhance Kenya’s forest resources and provide employment from the less privileged communities surrounding the forest. This partnership saw one hundred trees being planted by KENAS staff after which they were treated to a tour within the forest.

KENAS Promotes Literacy in Utawala Academy

In the framework of celebrating the prize giving day at Utawala Academy, KENAS former Chairperson, Prof. Marion Mutugi took part in a tree planting exercise in Utawala in June 2012. This event not only drew attention to the organization’s shared responsibility of planting and taking care of trees, but also its concern of improving literacy in learning institutions. She made a promise to the academy that she will stock the library with books – which she ultimately did after two months.

The pledge was one of KENAS’ corporate social responsibilities in that calendar year driven by the need to improve teaching and learning facilities.
