Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025

KENAS offers laboratories accreditation to the international standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017. This standard contains requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories and is used by laboratories in developing a management system for quality, administrative and technical operations.

Testing laboratories Testing laboratories play an important role in economies by providing objective evidence that a product or service offered conforms to certain customer requirements or specifications. The testing programme also provides an accreditation service for different industry sectors, including environmental monitoring, food safety, textile, infrastructure and construction, agriculture and mining, manufacturing.

The scope of accreditation for testing laboratories includes but is not limited to the following:

Facilities Accredited

To maintain this accreditation, laboratories are assessed periodically by KENAS for compliance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 to ensure their continued compliance with standard requirements and KENAS’s requirements. The laboratories are also required to participate in relevant proficiency testing programs as a further demonstration of technical competence.

  • Facilities undertaking any sort of testing.
  • Private or government laboratories.
  • One-person operations or large multi-disciplinary organizations.
  • Remote field operations and permanent laboratories.

Mandatory Exemption Application for Foreign-Accredited Conformity Assessment Bodies
The Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) informs all conformity assessment bodies in Kenya accredited by foreign bodies to apply for exemption from KENAS accreditation. This requirement, effective from 27th December 2024, mandates compliance by 27th March 2025. Apply through the Exemption Application Application Form .
